In 1995,,,,,,

Greetings! In 1995 I took a train trip to Idaho to visit my Uncle Harvey's wife "Joey" and my cousins.  I had not seen them since I was a real little girl of about 4 years old.  Uncle Harvey had past about 11 years prior to my visit.  Because it was such a long time since I had seen them I was a bit nervous but excited as well.  It had been over 30 years, would I recognize them? As the train pulled into the station I was watching out the window and sure enough, I did recognize my Aunt and my cousin Terry.  Aunt Joey had not changed one bit and Terry and I could almost be twins except he is a man and I am a woman.  I immediately felt more at ease when seeing them.  Familiar faces always help, LOL. We had a great visit!  I was there for 2 weeks.  We talked about the family a bit.  Aunt Joey told me some stories about my grandmother I had not known and a few about my grandfather.  As we were sitting in the dining room one morning having coffee I looked over and saw a p

In the beginning,,,,,,

Greetings! In the beginning,,,, kind of sounds like the beginning of the bible, LOL.  But seriously all genealogists have a beginning when they first decided to start researching their family history.  Sometimes we are blessed with a lot of information to start with but most often we are not.  I think most people start after they lose their parents and suddenly realize they do not know much about their family history and want to know more.  I am no exception. I had asked questions when I was a kid, but really did not get very clear answers.  After my parents passed, my mom in 1993 and my dad in 94 I started searching.  I knew a little more about my dad's side than my mom's but not much.  Luckily, my dad's side, Aber, was not a very common name and it was a little easier to trace.  Mom's on the other hand, Parker, was going to be a huge challenge!  The other challenge I faced was I now lived 1000 miles from home and did not have a computer yet.  (Gosh I am so gratefu

Just setting this up,,,,,

Greetings!! I hope you will bear with me as I am just setting this up.  My intention is to share my experiences researching my family history.  The ups and downs, successes and failures, tips and tricks I have learned along the way.  Wonderful finds and meeting "new" relatives. The search continues and will probably never end.  It is an addiction, the more you find, the more you want to know and the more you learn along the way. Check back soon as I am preparing to write my first story, "Getting started, where do I begin"? Until next time,,,,,
